Welcome to the website of The Ocean County Department of Juvenile Services located on Sunset Ave in Toms River, NJ.

The Department administers those secure and non-secure programs established by law and/or the Board of Chosen Freeholders for juveniles involved or at risk of becoming involved in the Juvenile Justice System.

These programs include :

• Juvenile Detention
• Electronic Monitoring/Home Detention
• Ocean County Children’s Shelter
• Youth Services
• R.A.I.S.E. Programs
• Community Service
• School Mentoring Program
• Gang Awareness program entitled TAG (Truth about Gangs)

Simply stated, the Department’s mission is to help the at risk youth of Ocean County develop into more secure individuals, to promote positive changes in their personal development and remain productive and socially adjusted members of the community. Alternative behaviors, alternative value systems, and alternative thinking patterns are seen as the keys to unlocking more promising futures.

The Department recognizes that years of maladaptive formation will not be easily changed, but this is not an excuse for inaction.

The Department believes that it should do whatever it can with all available resources to have a positive effect on the at risk youth of the County. This overall vision and comprehensive approach is the strength of the Ocean County Department of Juvenile Services.
