Acoustic Strawbs - Backstage Pass
Friday, September 17
7:00 PM; Doors Open @ 6:00 PM
STRAND Center for the Arts
Have you ever wanted to share the stage with the Strawbs? Now is your chance as the Strand Center for the Arts presents a very special "Backstage Pass" show. Backstage Pass is a relatively new series where the audience is seated on stage with the artists, looking out over the historic theater's interior. These shows bring a level of intimacy to the performance that cannot be achieved in a regular theater or club setting. Viewed by the British public as one of the most respected and pioneering folk rock bands of their era, the Strawbs toured regularly with the likes of the Eagles, Santana, and King Crimson. Opening the show will be long time friend of the Strand, Patrick Fitzsimmons, who is an amazing guitarist/percussionist as well as a long time admirer of the Strawbs. Seating for this show will be extremely limited.

OCC Theatre Co. Presents Rodgers & Hammerstein's A Grand Night for Singing
Friday, November 12
7:00 PM Opening Night Gala Reception; Peformance @ 8:00 PM
The Arts and Community Center at Ocean County College
The King and I, South Pacific, Oklahoma and The Sound of Music are all familiar Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals that have been performed time and time again. A Grand Night for Singing cleverly takes songs out of their original context and gives them new life. Shall We Dance becomes a pick-up song at a disco; I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out-a My Hair becomes an Andrew Sister's number; and a jazzy Kansas City leaves no question about how terrically "up-to-date" the remarkable Rodgers and Hammerstein songs remain. Bring yourself, sweetheart, and family to experience this wonderfully fun and musical event. It will be a Grand Night for Singing!

MidWeek Jazz presents Jeff Barnhardt
Wednesday, November 17
8:00 PM
The Arts and Community Center of Ocean County College
"There are jazz festivals going on all over this country." observes band leader Dan Levinson, "and Jeff Barnhardt is in every one of them. That's only a slight exaggeration, since Barnhart is this nation's premier stride pianist and nearly every festival wants him! And MidWeek Jazz has him! Avid fans are impressed with the exuberance he brings to each performance, playing with such force and blinding speed that there is a certain sympathy for the piano! This will be especially obvious on his first solo visit to MidWeek Jazz, since he has agreed to play in-the-round, so that the audience can be close to the intense action. His performance brings out his sense of humor and merriment, yet the Victor Borge of Jazz Piano has the rapid fingering demanded of a world class stride player. He logs over 100,000 miles each year to display his virtuosity for a large and growing fan club.
