New Jersey Chamber Singers "A Baroque Feast" Concert in Red Bank
Saturday, May 17
May 17 8:00 PM
New Jersey Chamber Singers
New Jersey Chamber Singers’ 35th Anniversary concert, A Baroque Feast, draws inspiration from one of the most famous stories in music history. While employed in Arnstadt, the young J.S. Bach took an unauthorized leave of absence (for several months) to visit the great composer/organist, Dieterich Buxtehude in Lübeck. This journey was just over 250 miles by foot, each way. While there, Bach heard a beautiful cantata that influenced his compositional mind so much that he began writing cantatas in the style of Buxtehude. Joined by some of the Northeast’s best baroque instrumentalists, we will authentically perform Buxtehude’s cantata that changed music history, "Membra Jesu Nostri."

June 26, 29, July 1 - 2 2:00 PM; June 26 - 28, July 2 & 5 8:00 PM

This Tony Award winning musical has fairy tale leanings with a princess, a far off country, wedding bells and a happily ever after. The story of Sally Adams, a glamorous and exuberant Washington DC widow with a penchant for parties but a complete lack of experience in the diplomatic corps becomes US Ambassador to the tiny duchy of Lichtenburg. It's not long before her down-to-earth, typically undiplomatic manner captivates the handsome Prime Minister and encourages the romance of her aide with an enchanting young princess. Of course, the 'stuffed shirts' in Washington conspire to get her recalled, but all ends happily, helped along by one of Irving Berlin’s most memorable scores including “You're Just in Love,” “It's A Lovely Day Today,” and “Hostess With The Mostes' on the Ball.”
