The Great Monarch Butterfly Race for the Border Saturday, March 3 1:00 PM Friends of Barnegat Lighthouse State Park Every fall Monarch Butterflies from as far away as Canada set their sights on their winter home. The last of each year’s approximate four generations will over winter in only a very small part of Mexico’s mountainous central region. Like the generations which migrated before them, these butterflies have never flown the route nor have they seen the trees on which their great–grandparents over wintered last year, yet they still manage to find their way to the same spot. Amazing! To help track this amazing journey Dan and Luanne Weekes of Pollination Station, have raised, tagged and released over 1600 Monarch butterflies during the past four years. Join them for an interactive lecture on the Monarch Butterfly life cycle, its amazing seasonal migration and the conservation efforts of Pollination Station.
