Ocean County Press Release
Colabella Named COANJ Section Chief
TOMS RIVER - Ocean County Clerk Scott M. Colabella has been selected by his peers to serve in a leadership position in the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey (COANJ).
COANJ is comprised of the Constitutional Officers (Sheriffs, County Clerks, Surrogates and Registers) representing each of the 21 counties. The association membership annually selects a single constitutional officer as Section Chief to lead each respective group.
"I am honored, and humbled, that my colleagues from throughout New Jersey, and from both sides of the political aisle, selected me to represent them as Section Leader in 2012," Colabella said.
Numerous issues which have an impact on County Clerks and their offices will be at the forefront in 2012, including legislation that would require deed solicitors to register with the State of New Jersey, revisions to the mail-in ballot applications, and changes to statutes related to recording documents affecting the title to real estate, according to Colabella.
Colabella succeeds Somerset County Clerk Bret Radi as 2012 Section Chief.
The Section Chief is responsible for monitoring and advocating for state legislation affecting County Clerks on matters related to the preservation and recording of documents, as well as election related issues.
In addition, Colabella in his role as Section Chief, will chair various meetings and committees attended by County Clerks to discuss matters affecting their offices, and coordinate policy positions, and interact with other government offices, and organizations, that deal with county government.
"We are proud that the County Clerks from throughout New Jersey have selected our Ocean County Clerk, Scott Colabella, to serve in this leadership position," said Ocean County Freeholder John P. Kelly, Director of Law and Public Safety. "It is a tribute to Scott's dedication, and skills, that his fellow Constitutional Officers tapped him for this leadership post in the state association."
Colabella, 52, of Barnegat Light, was elected as Ocean County Clerk in 2010. He served as Deputy County Clerk prior to his election as County Clerk.
