Ocean County Press Release
NOVEMBER SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES MUST OBTAIN & FILE NOMINATING PETITIONS WITH COUNTY CLERK BY JUNE 5th

TOMS RIVER - Candidates interested in running for a school board seat in the November 6th General Election must file a nominating petition with the Ocean County Clerk by June 5th.

Beginning this year, most Ocean County school board elections will be held on Election Day in November rather than in April, said Ocean County Clerk Scott M. Colabella. Lakewood Township is the only exception and will hold its election on April 17.

The deadline to file nominating petitions for school board is 4 pm Tuesday, June 5th. Prospective school board candidates can obtain and file nominating petitions at two County Clerk Office locations: the Ocean County Court House, 118 Washington Street in Toms River or the Ocean County Southern Service Center at 179 South Main Street in Stafford Township.

"In an effort to make the school board candidate petition filing process more convenient for individuals residing in the southern portion of our County we are pleased to provide this service at our Stafford office location," Colabella said.

Governor Chris Christie signed a bill into law on January 17th allowing the school elections to move from April to November. Election Day this year falls on November 6.

A total of 74 school board seats will appear on the November ballot in various school districts throughout Ocean County, according to Colabella.

Candidates seeking additional information about school election petitions are advised to contact the County Clerk's Election Office at (732) 929-2153 or obtain info on-line at www.oceancountyclerk.com the County Clerk's web site.
