Ocean County Press Release
Seniors Beware of Phone Scam
7/3/2013

OCEAN COUNTY officials want seniors to beware of a new scam offering free Personal Emergency Response Systems.

"Scammers are contacting seniors offering free Personal Emergency Response Systems," said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly, Director of Law and Public Safety. "However the scammers are asking for personal information like bank account numbers, Social Security numbers and other personal information.

"Our seniors need to know that this is nothing more than a scam to get personal information from unsuspecting senior citizens," Kelly said.

Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, Chairman of Senior Services, said any senior living in Ocean County that wants correct information on Personal Emergency Response Systems can contact the Ocean County Office of Senior Services at 732-929-2091.

"We have a well trained highly professional staff that can help our seniors by providing them with the correct information," Vicari said. "Seniors should never provide personal information to anyone who may be offering a free service."
