Ocean County Press Release
County Announces Dates for Document Shredding Program
3/12/2014

TOMS RIVER – The Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders will roll out its free residential document shredding program on April 5 in Eagleswood Township.

"Under the direction of Freeholder Jim Lacey, our liaison to recycling, this program is not only popular with our residents but provides them a layer of safety against identity theft," said Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari. "This program is convenient for our citizens and comes at no cost."

Freeholder James F. Lacey announced today (March 12) that the 2014 Ocean County Residential Shredding Program will run from April until October. The work is being performed by Autoshred of Toms River and is done at no cost to the County.

"We all tend to collect personal documents and store them in our homes even though we may no longer need them," Lacey said. "This is a great and safe way to get rid of those papers. It reduces household clutter and gives our residents peace of mind that the information cannot be retrieved and used for identity theft. It also benefits our recycling program."

Residents are not required to register for this free program and can bring six boxes or bags each day. The program is for all paper documents and paper forms. Paperclips and staples do not have to be removed.

Lacey noted the shredding unit features an automatic feeding and dumping system, which eliminates the need for human contact with a resident's documents.
