Ocean County Press Release
Plan A Day, A Week and More at the Shore
TOMS RIVER – Looking for something to do today, tomorrow, next week in Ocean County? Look no further than www.oceancountytourism.com.
The colorful, informative website promoting tourism in Ocean County – from beaches to boardwalks, from the arts to amusements and a host of other attractions and events recently was unveiled by Ocean County tourism officials.
"I am very pleased to announce this new website is now available to our residents and to visitors and would-be visitors," said Ocean County Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Business Development and Tourism Advisory Council. "Information is key to attracting more tourists to Ocean County and this website offers plenty of it."
Unveiled by Dana Lancellotti, Director of the Ocean County Division of Business Development and Tourism, she noted the website was done in-house with the assistance of the staff from the Ocean County Information Technology Department. She added that local photographers provided the color to the site with pictures of attractions from throughout Ocean County.
Vicari noted that tourism plays a major role in the county's economy and it's important that visitors and residents are aware of events that are happening and places they can go.
"Tourism brings in $4.3 billion annually into Ocean County's economy and helps provide jobs to more than 65,000 people," Vicari said. "In recent years, our tourism industry has struggled in particular because of Superstorm Sandy, but as our municipalities, businesses and residents continue on the path to recovery we want to provide a boost to this industry in an effort to bring in more dollars.
"We want to attract families from other states, and our own residents to take advantage of all the great things that are here in Ocean County," Vicari said. "We have 44 miles of coastline in addition to Barnegat Bay which offers recreational boating, there are band concerts, minor league baseball, fireworks displays. You name it and I would venture to say you will find it here."
Other features of the new website include access to Google maps, which lets visitors know where they are and where attractions and events are located. In addition, events can be searched by categories and dates. Listings also are available for chambers of commerce, business associations and more.
"The new site is easy to navigate not only on a computer but also on your cell phone or other mobile devices," Vicari said.
The tourism information also can be accessed on social media on Facebook at www.facebook/tourismoceancounty.
"We want everyone to ‘Like' this page on Facebook," Vicari said. "So when the weekend approaches or when you plan your vacation in Ocean County you will know what is happening here and you will see that we have a lot to offer."
