Ocean County Press Release
STATEMENT FROM OCEAN COUNTY FREEHOLDER DIRECTOR GERRY P. LITTLE

Ocean County has lost two former public officials who worked very hard for the people of Ocean County.

Richard "Dick" Work was a former Lakewood Mayor, Lakewood School Board member, longtime Chairman of the Ocean County Planning Board, Vice Chairman of the Ocean County Board of Health and a member of the Ocean County Utilities Authority.

Dick dedicated many long hours to the residents of his town and to the people of Ocean County. He passed away on February 3.

Ernest "Larry" St. Laurent served as Director of the Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau from 1989 to 2003. He passed away on January 29.

An Army veteran of the Korean War, Larry won a Purple Heart for wounds he suffered at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in 1950.

Through his work with the county and local veterans' organizations, including the VFW, Larry dedicated his life to assisting the men and women who served their nation.

The Board of Chosen Freeholders remembers Dick Work and Larry St. Laurent with fondness and thanks them for their dedication and years of service.

We send our condolences and our prayers to their families.

Both men will be honored with a moment of silence at the Wednesday, February 7 meeting of the Board of Freeholders
