|On Saturday April 27, 2013 a group of 20 Ocean County residents enjoyed learning the basics of backyard home composting at a free "How To" compost class. These classes are generally held either in the spring or fall every year. At this class, taught by Ocean County Master Composter volunteers, residents learned how they can manage their organic waste. Compost is very beneficial for the environment: it reduces trash by 20-40%, improves fertility and health of the soil, saves water by helping the soil retain moisture, reduces water run-off and reduces the need for fertilizer. This program is sponsored by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Ocean County Department of Solid Waste Management.
