Raymond L. Van Marter is an Ocean County Deputy Fire Marshal assigned to the training center. He acts as the center’s Fire Training Coordinator. His position entails both administrative and hands – on instruction. He is responsible for developing the fire-training schedule each year and ensuring that course needs are met. He also sees to it that the all-volunteer instructor staff is provided with the most up to date course material and training aids that are needed to complete their goal. Raymond is also responsible for coordinating hand on drills with the counties sixty-two (62) fire companies. Raymond’s goals in this position are quite simple: To make fire training accessible to all Ocean County firefighters. To provide the most up to date, informative, and technically correct programs to all of our emergency responders. Raymond also wants to continue the fire academy’s long standing tradition of providing quality training at no cost to our hometown heroes - Ocean County’s Volunteer Firefighters.
In 2000 the Ocean County Training Center and Ocean County College entered into a joint agreement that allows college credits to be awarded towards a fire science degree for completion of our Firefighter Level 1 Program.
Our future accomplishments will be aimed toward updating current course curriculum, as needed as well as planning ahead for the next generation of firefighters and fire service training.
