The Department of Transportation Services county transit system, Ocean Ride, includes two major services. the Reserve-A-Ride Program and local bus routes. Reserve-A-Ride provides door-to-door, non-emergency medical transportation service to seniors (age 60 and over) and person with disabilities. This service is offered by advanced registration basis primarily to destinations within Ocean County. Pre-registration is required.

The OC 10 Toms River Connection will now operate 7 days a week from Sunday, May 1st to Labor Day weekend 2016.

Annual Public Hearing

The Ocean County Transportation Department (Ocean Ride) will conduct its Annual Public Hearing to be held Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Ocean County Administration Building, Room 119, 1:00 PM, located at the corner of Hooper Avenue and Washington Street, Toms River, New Jersey. The County is applying for funding from NJ TRANSIT under the Senior Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation Assistance Program. The purpose of the hearing is to solicit public comment on the County's FY 2017 service proposal.

The Administration building is accessible to persons with disabilities via the side entrance. Limited accessible transportation will be made available by calling Ocean Ride at 732.736.8989 extension 239 no later than 12:00 noon, Friday, June 10, 2016. Ocean County employees can now take advantage of a new carpool service sponsored by the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Transportation Management Association for Ocean County (TMA).

The Ocean Ride transportation system currently includes 12 bus routes which operate throughout Ocean County ( PDF map of routes). The routes are designed to connect key residential areas with popular destinations such as local governmental facilities, healthcare, shopping, employment, social services and other transit connections. The bus routes operate on a fixed schedule, making it easy for you to plan your trip!

Ocean Ride is a service of the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Freeholder Virginia E. "Ginny" Haines is the Freeholder Liaison for the Department of Transportation Services.

Funding for the Ocean Ride System is provided by County tax dollars as well as state and federal grants. The Board of Chosen Freeholders contribute more than 49% of the total annual budget.
