Ocean County Teen Arts Awards


Tentative Date of Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

The Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation has graciously offered to provide $10,000 in prizes for the Salute and $7,500 to compensate the three professionals to assist the student documentaries of the awardees.

Commission will select six (6) Awardees with the understanding that only 3 documentaries will be produced. Lifetime Achievement awards for Art and History will be offered every year with documentaries for the awardees. In 2017, the third documentary will be the History Preservation Award. Advertisement of the awards will be done in the fall issue of Out & About, press releases and electronic websites, etc. The final decisions will be made on November 15 at the Commission meeting.

General Rules


  1. All awardees will be required to be at the Salute on April 4, 2017 at the
    time of the presentation to qualify to be awarded unless extreme
    extenuating circumstances as determined by the Commission.

  2. All works must be original and can not be plagiarized.

  3. All submission must be submitted with a release of rights to display,
    reprint or offer in other media (including but not limited to electronic or
    print) from the student or their legal guardian if student is not a legal
    adult.

  4. Decision of money allotted to each category is solely at the discretion
    of the Ocean County Culture and Heritage Commission

  5. All decisions of the Commission will be final.

  6. Rules may change without notice.

Specific Student Awards


  1. Award: Documentary – one award of $1,000 to school selected by the full Commission at the March 14, 2017. Completed Documentaries (maximum 5 minutes) must be submitted to be at the Commission office by 5:00 PM EST of March 13, 2017.
    Schools interested must:

    1. Submit mandatory notice of Intent by September15, 2016

    2. Participate at mandatory orientation session on October 6, 2016

    3. Submit mandatory application by November 1, 2016

    4. Random selection of qualified schools on November 15, 2016

    5. Random pairing with Professional Media consultants by Grunin Foundation also on November 15, 2016


  2. Award: Visual Arts – one award of $1,000 to artist selected by a committee composing the two Ocean County Teen Arts adjudicators and two members of the Commission (Alison Amelchenko and Linda Starzman) from the works either selected to be forwarded the NJ Teen Arts Festival, the traveling Teen Arts display or works critiqued for excellence during the Ocean County Teen Arts Festival.

  3. Award: Creative Writing – one award of $1,000 to artist selected by a committee composing the two Ocean County Teen Arts adjudicators and two members of the Commission (TBD) from the works either selected to be forwarded the NJ Teen Arts Festival or works critiqued for excellence during the Ocean County Teen Arts Festival.

  4. Award: Video - one award of $1,000 to artist selected by a committee composing the two Ocean County Teen Arts adjudicators and two members of the Commission (Kevin Pace and TBD) from the works either selected to be forwarded the NJ Teen Arts Festival or works critiqued for excellence during the Ocean County Teen Arts Festival.

  5. Award: Live Performance – two awards to schools ($5000 Grand Prize - $1,000 First Runner Up) to be selected from the live performances at the Salute by the Commissioners present the night of the performance. Performing groups will be selected from the performances either selected to be forwarded the NJ Teen Arts Festival or performances critiqued for excellence during the Ocean County Teen Arts Festival. Selected performance groups will be required to by March 24 at 4:00 PM:


    1. Accept the invitation to perform at the Salute on April 4;

    2. Provide the name of the piece to be performed, the composer/writer of the piece and the directors name for the program;

    3. Salute performances are limited to 4 minutes;

    4. Provide technical requirement request for performance.
