Home Up Academy Staff AWARD WINNERS Class 1 Graduation Graduation Pictures

The Ocean County Department of Corrections, in conjunction with the Ocean County Police Academy, recently graduated Class #1 of the Basic Course for County Correction Officers.

The course was made possible through a determined effort by Freeholder John P. Kelly, County Administrator Alan W. Avery Jr., Warden Theodore J. Hutler, Jr., and Director Joseph Perna.

This fourteen week state-mandated basic training course was attended by eighteen recruits from Ocean, Cape May and Gloucester counties.

The Basic Course for County Correction Officers is an intensive program of instruction, including:

  • Academic Instruction
  • Criminal Law
  • Constitutional Law
  • Physical training
  • Crime scene preservation and evidence identification
  • Courtroom demeanor
  • Defensive tactics
  • Firearms training
  • Riot and disturbance control

The course was taught by New Jersey Police Training Commission certified instructors from the private sector and several agencies throughout the state, including:
