Seaside Heights Borough - Cranberry Inlet

Years ago, Cranberry Inlet was opened between the ocean and the bay. It was located between Ortley Beach amd Seaside Heights. Cranberry Inlet was used by whale boats, schooners, and fishing boats. Privateers used the inlet during the War of 1812 to attack British merchant ships traveling along the coast. When storms closed the inlet, two attempts were made to reopen it, but both failed. The inlet got its name from the wild cranberries that grew along its shores.
