Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance Inspection

New Jersey State Law requires a smoke detector/carbon monoxide/fire extinguisher inspection if you sell rent your 1 or 2 family home.

The inspection certificate is valid for one year from the date of inspection.

Seasonal Rentals can have multiple changes of tenants within the 12 month period. Example: If you rent seasonally, you can have property inspected in January and have multiple changes of tenants until the following January.

Year round rentals only require an inspection when you have a change of renters after the initial inspection and when that year has expired. Example: If you do not rent seasonally and have the same tenant for the entire or more, you only need to have the home inspected when you have a change of renters one year after the initial inspection.
