The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting life and property. We are dedicated to affording all citizens with law enforcement excellence and shall perform our duties in a proficient and effective manner. While performing the customary services of the Sheriff, we remain ready to strengthen and enhance all other law enforcement organizations. We acknowledge that the aptitude needed to effectively complete our mission is based on collective joint deference and dependability shared between the Sheriff’s Office, federal, state, county and municipal agencies, and the citizens we serve. As professionals, we are obligated to enforce the laws in a just and unbiased approach, while realizing the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority. The Ocean County Sheriff's Office collaborates with local municipal police departments at the following locations on a regular basis:

Silverton Fire Department
15 Kettle Creek Road, Toms River, NJ 08753
2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 3:00 - 6:30 pm.

Ridgeway Fire Department
2848 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759
1st Wednesday of each month from 4:00 - 8:00 pm.

Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy

Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy

Michael G. Mastronardy brings 40 years of law enforcement experience to the Sheriff’s Office. Having worked his way up the ranks of the Toms River Police Department, Mastronardy was named Chief of the Department in November 1992. He served as Chief for 22 years until his retirement December 31, 2013.

Sheriff Mastronardy is the Chief Executive Officer of his agency which includes multiple divisions and units in which he is responsible for staffing with highly-trained professional personnel. Navigation Icon More...
William Sommeling

Undersheriff William T. Sommeling

William T. Sommeling was appointed Undersheriff by Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy January 2014. Sommeling was appointed by Sheriff William L. Polhemus in December of 2011, previously served as Undersheriff for Sheriff Polhemus from 1989 to 2000, William T. Sommeling served as Acting Sheriff as of December 2012 to January 2014.

Undersheriff Sommeling is the executive officer in charge of administration and conducts Sheriff Sales on foreclosed properties in Ocean County. Navigation Icon More...

Chief John H. Farnkopf

Under the direction of Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy and Undersheriff Sheriff William T. Sommeling, Chief Farnkopf is responsible for overseeing the Operations and Investigations divisions.

Chief John H. Farnkopf began his career with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office in 1991. He graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy as a member of the 55th Basic Police Class. Navigation Icon More...
