Our Mission

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting life and property. We are dedicated to affording all citizens with law enforcement excellence and shall perform our duties in a proficient and effective manner. While performing the customary services of the Sheriff, we remain ready to strengthen and enhance all other law enforcement organizations. We acknowledge that the aptitude needed to effectively complete our mission is based on collective joint deference and dependability shared between the Sheriff’s Office, federal, state, county and municipal agencies, and the citizens we serve. As professionals, we are obligated to enforce the laws in a just and unbiased approach, while realizing the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority. In accomplishing our goal of law enforcement excellence, we will steadfastly protect the constitutional rights of every person.


Toy Drive 2015

This holiday season the Ocean County Sheriff's Office will be conducting its annual Toy Drive in conjunction with the Ocean County Chiefs of Police Association. This Toy Drive enables the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and the local municipalities to provide gifts for children of families in need within Ocean County.

The Toy Drive Form is used to request toys through the Ocean County Sheriff's Office. The form can be completed on line here. Once the form is completed, click the "email form" tab at the top right corner to send the form to the Sheriff's Office. The form can also be faxed or mailed. The appropriate fax number and mailing address can be found on the form.

If you wish to donate a new unwrapped toy please call (732) 929-2161. This is the designated toy drive telephone line. Please leave a message and someone will promptly return your call. On behalf of the Ocean County Sheriff's Office and the Ocean County Chiefs of Police Association, we would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

Child Passenger Safety Inspection Stations

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office collaborates with local municipal police departments to offer this service to the public.

Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy

Michael G. Mastronardy brings 40 years of law enforcement experience to the Sheriff’s Office. Having worked his way up the ranks of the Toms River Police Department, Mastronardy was named Chief of the Department in November 1992. He served as Chief for 22 years until his retirement December 31, 2013.

Sheriff Mastronardy is the Chief Executive Officer of his agency which includes multiple divisions and units in which he is responsible for staffing with highly-trained professional personnel. Navigation Icon More...
William Sommeling

Undersheriff William T. Sommeling

William T. Sommeling was appointed Undersheriff by Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy January 2014. Sommeling was appointed by Sheriff William L. Polhemus in December of 2011, previously served as Undersheriff for Sheriff Polhemus from 1989 to 2000, William T. Sommeling served as Acting Sheriff as of December 2012 to January 2014.

Undersheriff Sommeling is the executive officer in charge of administration and conducts Sheriff Sales on foreclosed properties in Ocean County. Navigation Icon More...
