The Threat is Elevated

Personal safety and the security of the citizens of Ocean County in their home and at work or play is our top priority.

Special Projects
Special Projects encompasses several varied functions ranging from programs benefiting our Youth to the Senior Citizens of Ocean County. Law Enforcement Interns and the Law Enforcement Community of Ocean County all benefit from these services as well while not duplicating existing programs. Starting with our youth, for our youth are our future!

Through our Missing Persons Unit, the sheriff has developed a close working relationship with the Ocean County Commission on Exploited and Missing Children, the Ocean County Boy Scout and Girl Scout Groups, the DARE Program and the (MOCIB) or Monmouth and Ocean County Intelligence Bureau. We also work closely with the local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as the County school districts.

We provide well-trained and dedicated Officers to schools or civic groups to provide information on youth issues and concerns. We provide DARE Officers when requested and only if they are not available through the local police. We give scouts and school children tours of the Sheriffs Department and demonstrations at their facility if requested. We instruct law enforcement on missing children/persons at the Ocean County Police Academy, as well as the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice Academy in Sea Girt. Our efforts in this area have been recognized by the FBI and copied by others.
We have set up a Children's Identification Program that fingerprints and photographs children for their parent's peace of mind. This year alone we have printed and photographed over 31,350 children.

We have started a Car Seat Program that inspects car seats. We advise parents on the safe and proper way to install a car seat. This program is important, as most seats are improperly installed and dangerous. To-date we have inspected over 124 car seats, finding 122 seats were installed improperly. This program will now be expanded as I see a real need to help young parents protect their children.

We began the practice of acknowledging all Eagle and Gold Scout achievers, as that is a very important step in scouting and development of our youth. As a former scout leader the Sheriff knows how important this step is in scouting. We have talked to numerous scout groups over the past years.
