Reserve-A-Ride Program
|
The Reserve-A-Ride system provides
door-to-door service to eligible residents of Ocean County
on an advanced reservation, first come, first serve basis.
Eligible riders include senior citizens, defined as persons
age 60 and over and adults with disabilities.
Important note: Registration and 2 week advance notice are
required. Trips are confirmed subject to scheduling availability.
The Reserve-A-Ride system is primarily
designed to serve routine medical needs of County residents. Unlike the fixed
bus routes, this service does not operate on the basis of a printed schedule,
rather routes and pick-up times are developed each day in response to the
service requests we receive.
Please keep in mind that there is a high demand for the Reserve-A-Ride
service.

Reserve-A-Ride Reservation Procedure
|
|
You may call Ocean Ride from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM to make your trip
reservation two (2) weeks prior to the date of your appointment on Monday
(preferably), Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
For example, when calling on the 11th, 12th, or 13th of the month, you can
reserve a ride for the week of the 25th and anything that might still be
available for the week before (see sample calender). Please keep in mind this
scheduling feature is based on a first come, first serve basis.
|
|
|
If you call to make a reservation and the office is closed due to a County
holiday, we will extend the reservation period to Thursday. You
will always have three days each week to make reservations.
Trips requests for Reserve-A-Ride are not accepted by e-mail. All
trip requests are handled by telephone by calling (732) 736-8989, ext. 1 to
speak with a Reservationist.
Once the reservation has been made, the driver will arrive anytime within 1
hour of the scheduled appointment time. In accordance with Ocean Ride's Safety
Policy, our driver's are not permitted to enter your home. Ocean Ride requires the rider to be at the door for scheduled pick-up.

Voluntary Donation Policy
The County of Ocean established a voluntary donation in order to
comply with various grant-funding requirements. The suggested donation is $1.00
per one-way trip or $2.00 per round-trip for riders of the Ocean Ride
(Reserve-A-Ride) service. Passengers may donate more or less, if so desired.
Lack of giving a donation will, in no way affect one’s participation in the
County transportation service. Recognizing that fares cover only a fair portion of actual transportation service cost,
the donation policy provides a mechanism to accept addional revenue over and above fares.
For your convenience, a supply of postage paid, pre-addressed envelopes are
available in each Ocean Ride vehicle which you may use to send a donation.
Checks should be made paybel to "Ocean County Treasurer". Drivers are
instructed NOT to accept envelopes or cash donations.
