Pursuant to the December 2021 Attorney General Guideline “Promoting Diversity in Law Enforcement Recruiting and Hiring,” the Ocean County Department of Corrections is committed to doing all that we can to hire staff who reflect the communities that we serve (see N.J.S.A.52:17B-4.10).
2023 Census Data indicates that Ocean County’s population is 87.64% White, 3.13% Black, .02% Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, 1.89% Asian, .37% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 6.95% two or more races. 48.67% of the population are male and 51.33% of the population are female.
As of December 31, 2023, the Ocean County Department of Corrections had 184 officers: 88.59% white, 3.26% black .54% Asian, and 7.61% two or more races. 86.41% of the officers at the Ocean County Department of Corrections are male and 13.59% are female.
The Ocean County Department of Corrections is bound by the rules of the New Jersey Civil Service Commission when we conduct our hiring. However, through community outreach we are able to recruit applicants from all backgrounds.
