Stand-by Trip Program

Need a trip to the Pharmacy? Grocery Shopping? Beauty Salon?

Ocean Ride offers “Stand-By Trip” service to seniors (age 60+) and/or adults with disabilities (age 18 and over). Some restrictions apply.

When calling to reserve your trip, you may find the day you want to travel is fully booked. In that case, you may be placed on a "Stand-By" list.

Ocean Ride will accommodate a limited number of “Stand-By Trips” based on our system availability.

To be placed on our "Stand By" for trips, call the main number at (732) 736-8989 and then Press #1 to speak to a Reservationist. You may call the day before you would like to travel (based on availability) and up to four (4) weeks in advance.

If we can accommodate your trip, you will be notified between 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM the morning of the trip. Again, this type of service is best suited for local shopping and other trip purposes that are flexible and do not require a specific appointment or time schedule.

All vehicles are wheelchair lift-equipped.

The “Stand-By Trip” is best suited for local food or pharmacy shopping, local visits to nursing homes, etc. We offer the “Stand-By Trip” option to fill in between regularly scheduled medical appointments. Quick Tip: Keep in mind that trip availability varies daily; each morning Ocean Ride determines the number of trip requests we can honor. At time of request, your trip is not guaranteed.

Voluntary Donation Policy

The County of Ocean established a voluntary donation in order to comply with various grant-funding requirements. The suggested donation is $1.00 per one-way trip or $2.00 per round-trip for riders of the Ocean Ride (Reserve-A-Ride) service. Passengers may donate more or less, if so desired. Lack of giving a donation will, in no way affect one’s participation in the County transportation service. Recognizing that fares cover only a fair portion of actual transportation service cost, the donation policy provides a mechanism to accept additional revenue over and above fares.

For your convenience, a supply of postage paid, pre-addressed envelopes are available in each Ocean Ride vehicle which you may use to send a donation. Checks should be made payable to "Ocean County Treasurer". Drivers are instructed NOT to accept envelopes or cash donations.

Inclement Weather Policy:

For your safety during the winter months, Ocean Ride requires that you must have your driveway and/or path clear of snow and ice in order for our Drivers to safely pick you up at your door. You may also listen to the following radio stations for information: WOBM 1160 AM | WJRZ 100.1 FM | WOBM 92.7 FM
