Document Shredding Program
Ocean County offers two secure options for proper recycling of your confidential documents: 1. Shred your documents at home and bring the shredded paper to our recycling centers, dropping it off at collection containers located at Building 105 (Southern Recycling Center, Manahawkin) or Building 68 (Northern Recycling Center, Lakewood) for proper recycling. -Northern Recycling Center: 601 New Hampshire Avenue, Lakewood, NJ Drop off at building 68. -Southern Recycling Center: 379 Haywood Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050 Drop off at building 105. 2. Bring your unshredded documents to a Residential Document Shredding event for secure & proper recycling. You may bring up to 6 boxes (banker's box-sized) or bags of documents per event. This program runs during the Spring and Fall of each year. Business and/or commercial documents will not be accepted. Find out if you need to shred your documents before you head out . By bringing only documents that need to be shredded, more residents are able to take advantage of this program. Save yourself time and help us expedite the process by bringing ONLY confidential documents (such as those bearing Social Security numbers, full account numbers, legal documents w/ signatures, etc.) for shredding. Shredded paper should NOT be placed with curbside recyclables. It cannot be effectively sorted once combined with other single stream recyclables; once introduced to the sorting facility the small bits of paper blend in with other materials, making recycling of these materials more difficult and lowering the overall quality by acting as a contaminant.
